Firewalls seem to be in vogue at the moment. For those unfamiliar with what a firewall is pretty much is a program that sits between you and the outside world think of a toll booth, which stands on the edge between your world and the digital world. There are many different manufacturers of firewalls from companies like Linksys, D-Link, Netgear and many others.

Actually, if you are familiar with Windows XP has a free firewall program you can use to produce a basic protection between you and your network. If you prefer more advanced solutions you can do a search for free firewall software on network or buy one.

You may also have found that a firewall will not always work nicely with your other programs, such as antivirus and anti spyware related software. This rule can be adjusted within the firewall program, where you can configure which programs and services on your computer are allowed to travel back and forth between you and the web.

If you are not aware of a firewall at the moment, not worry. Most of the market offerings, are easy to install and setup. But one little inconvenience may be that in setting about every time you open a new application firewall can give you a pop-up box that asks how you want to configure access to it.

Beyond that it is not big deal, works like a charm. So if you have not configured a firewall for your computer or network, then it may be time you did it.

Okay, so I own my own small business. I just want a camera with audio recording of my employees. I get two Linksys WVC54GCA cameras because they are cheap and what I want. I would get an inexpensive wireless router to connect them. But I do not want to record on my PC, because I do not want my employees to access it. I need to be able to save at least some types of network storage device that I could see the away from home. I found a DVR I could see from afar, but I do not know if I could reocrd for it. It had what looked like a little coxial cable connectors with a pin in the middle. Finally, I a network storage device or network DVR that I can see at a distance, and that I can record for over a network from my linksys WVC54GCA Cameras

Some ideas: I am not a business owner, but I have a security camera outside my home. I use a program called Capturix VideoSpy which I think is excellent because it has a chance to record, when motion is detected, and up to 30 fps ... (Or less) means that you would not have a gigantic HD to store the images. Personally I get about 50 GB worth of images after 1 week running 24 hours a day, and at 30 fps, because the program only records when motion is detected outside my home. This program has also able to FTP to a website, but I have not done this myself. There are some other remote options as well. But when you view remotely in real time video will be very choppy and lags considerably. Your best bet is to record on a password-protected system, or at least make a password screensaver. I do not think this will interrupt the program. You just have to experiment. Your other option is to record to a portable USB drive and go home when you leave.
