Improved Power Management on The New iPhone 4
It has been difficult to avoid much of the hype around the release earlier this year by Apple's must have gadget, iPad. Now manufacturers to cram some of this technology in the new iPhone 4, to great effect.
IPhone 3G spent a very good and reliable processor through the ARM Cortex A8 chips. However, it has been dispensed with in favor of apples own A4 chip their custom built processor that the IPAD exploits. Where 3G was fast loading applications, iPhone 4 is supersonic, especially when you consider it has to handle the new multi-tasking facilities built in. Although the exact spec on the chip has not been officially confirmed, we imagine that it would be around 1Ghz level in line with many of its competitors. IOS 4, the new operating system also seen fit upgrades to match tweaks that we've seen on the phone itself. Saving on several websites filled with icons, IOS 4 allows the user to categorize applications. For example, you can create a photography icon, which when clicked, will reveal all photography apps like camera, Camera Roll Photoshop etc. This keeps the homescreen more tidy and also makes it easier for users to navigate. Backgrounds can now be added to the home screens for all who are sad about the aging black background. Other subtle improvements include a new common e-mail inbox so you can easily manage multiple accounts, a 5 x zoom camera, all be it only in digital form and the ability to view pictures of location taken in addition to the date they were taken.
Externally, the iPhone has gone through 4 the first change since the initial release. At a glance it is almost unrecognizable. The curved, glossy, plastic back no longer exists, replaced now with edgier and costly mirrors on both front and back. Having undergone a chemical treatment process, this glass 20 times stiffer than plastic and reportedly 30 times harder which means an all together more rugged and durable handset. Thanks to the glass used on both sides of the phone is now a noticeable difference between black and white models with more than just the back shell will be different. Packaged in a nicely between these two plates is a stylish look metal band (which serves as the phones antenna). This strip contains a few buttons, including individual circular volume buttons rather than the cheap looking, single toggle switch found on previous models. Hidden behind the front screen is also a new camera, added to allow the user to make high quality video calls thanks to Apple's new "face time" method. Apple has done a good job to embrace the impressive iPhone 3G, and make judicious improvements. But then they also have completely overshadowed all others, thanks to features like "Retina" display and brilliant appearance.
