okay so I stopped to buy a remote for My Canon Digital Rebel XT. and when I reader in detail for wireless ones talking about the infrared transmitters.i kinda get a handle on what it is, but what the camera is the signal sent? Do I need to buy something for my camera to receive the signal from the remote, or is there something built into my Canon Digital Rebel XT, which the remote just makes it possible to shutter without hassle. If you look at XT between the shutter and the lens is a small circular sensor. It is here that the IR remote to be hit. The downside is that if the sensor can not see the remote control will not fire (I've never tried it and it can work with reflections, but I would not trust it). If you expect to use it for self-portraits, it is just the ticket. Bright sunlight may interfere with the sensor as well, but again I've never tried it. I use a cable release and it is worth the expense IMHO.
