Purchasing a Nikon D40 DSLR camera is taking a higher step into a more serious photography and it is a perfect entry-level DSLR from Nikon.

Entry-level cameras are created and designed for those who are moving up from a standard point and hoot camera. They are for the average photographer who needs a little bit more from a camera in terms of performance and image quality.

Here are some tips on buying Nikon D40 DSLR Camera.

• If you have a tight budget, the first thing that will come up on your mind will be buying a used Nikon D40, so that your budget will fit but be careful when buying a used Nikon D40. Make sure that the connectors are not won and broken, if possible, try to examine the camera to ensure it is in good condition. Also check for some dead or stuck pixel on the LCD of the camera, while this won’t affect taken photographs but it can be annoying when composing photos or reviewing some pictures you have taken.
• Buying it on a holiday deal. Set budget first before purchasing a Nikon D40 DSLR camera and make sure that it has some extra batteries, memory cards, a free cleaning kit, photo printer and possibly a camera bag to save money from freebies like this. A lot of money will go to waste for spending it for some features that you don’t need or don’t know how to use it.
• Be careful when purchasing via an auction. Some high feedback ratings aren’t all legitimate or true. In auctions it gives the seller a great way to get rid of their old equipments as well as for buyers to come away with great bargains. When browsing some Nikon d40 DSLR on some auction sites, it is easy to get caught up with the idea of feedback ratings, while no one recommends purchasing items from sellers with many negative feedback ratings; all high feedback ratings may not be all true.
• You might not stick with a kit lens, purchasing a DSLR package with kit lens is sure a good buy but if you are planning to go wide-angle or zoom-in closer, you might try to buy just the body only and add a wide-angle lens or a lens that you want because kit lens that comes with the D40 DSLR packages may perform adequately for limited uses.
• Buying it on package deals. It almost sounds too good to be true, buying a package deals which includes the DSLR body, kit lens, memory card, tripod, back-up battery and more for hundred dollars off the original price. However, be careful before you spend your hard-earned money. While these deals may save you money, they may not save as much money as specified by individual products manufacturer’s retail prices and sometimes these deals are just ways of immoral dealers to make a few extra cash on the side, selling substandard equipments in combination lot that seems like a huge bargains for the buyers that are not prepared.

A Nikon D80 with multiple goodies attached, or the new Kodak Z980?

i'm a college student and a public affairs specialist in the national guard. part of my job is being a photographer...not to mention its a new found passion, that i find myself a knack for.
i'm looking for a camera for my birthday, that i'll pay for half of while the parents pay for the other half. i was trained on a Nikon and really like them.
i have found a Nikon D80, with a 18-70mm lens, and a 70-300mm lens, 2 memory cards, a tripod, a medium carrying case, and a cleaning kit for $800.
my other option, which someone is trying to convince me is better, is the new "SLR beater" Kodak Z980, which has a 20-600mm zoom and goes to a f-stop of 2.8. but has NO DISPOSABLE LENS ABILITY for $400. and i'm trying to think of long run benefits as well.
WHICH ONE IS THE BETTER BUY?

Buy the Nikon.

Sensor size alone would be enough to choose the Nikon.

Nikon sensor: 23.6x15.8mm. 372.9 mm squared.

Kodak sensor: 6.16x4.62mm. 28.5 mm squared.

The Nikon sensor is 13.1 times bigger. Which camera do you think will perform better at higher ISO settings? If you chose the Nikon go to the head of the class.

Add in interchangeable lenses and the Kodak gathers dust sitting on the shelf while you use the Nikon to make great pictures.

Add a Nikon 50mm f1.4 lens and you're all set for low-light, non-flash photography without having to use an extremely high ISO. At a full two stops slower the f2.8 of the Kodak comes up short for this type of photography.

To achieve the same shutter speed at f2.8 as the f1.4 does at, say, ISO 800 would require using the Kodak at ISO 3200. I'm guessing the digital noise from using the Kodak at ISO 3200 would make the image all but useless.
