Intelligent Camera Fantastic Buy - Ideal for Travel
Fantasic camera that packs many features into a small body with a 12x optical zoom, which can be up to 48x with digital zoom added in 'Normal Mode'.
The digital zoom feature is not available in the Intelligent Auto mode, but 'Normal Mode' (Available on select mode wheel) has many custom features such as quality, sensitivity, white balance, AF More, Metering Mode, Intelligent Exposure and Min. Shutter speed among others.
After using the camera for several days, I can not fault it. It has received many good reviews on the net from many sources and it seems to live up to all these so far.
Video recording can be performed with either AVCHD Lite mode or Motion JPEG (producing Quicktime. Mov files). After trying to take movies in both modes, I can say so much that AVCHD Lite provides better quality recordings. You can shoot up to 15 minutes at a time, and the manual recommends that you have a Class 6 SDHC card so there are no mistakes when you write on the memory card. There is a dedicated record button on the back of the camera so you can take shots very quickly.
Using the camera is very easy and the built-in menus are very simple to use. There are 27 individual modes to choose from, including Fireworks, antenna, Baby, Food, Beach, Snow, starry sky (with a shutter speed range of up to 60 sec), Sunset, Candlelight, Sports, Landscape, Night Scenery, and Underwater (when used with underwater housing) and others.
The buttons feels very well built and function selector on top is easy to use. Some Internet reviews expressed that the wheel can be dislodged easily, so it can move out of the current mode - this has happened a few times when it is a case or pocket, but is not a serious problem at all, since you can just dial back to the desired mode. When you turn the dial you feel it 'click' little when it moves into another state, so you can be sure what state you are in. LCD screen also shows what mode you are in when you turn the dial.
The camera comes very well packed in a small, neat box that contains all the usual accessories (battery, strap, battery case, charger, AV cable, USB cable, printed user manual for camera and accompanying software and a software CD). The camera does come with a case, screen saver, SDHC card or HDMI AV cable, but these can be purchased separately.
Overall I would give this camera 5 out 5 and the powerful, compact zoom makes this an excellent travel camera and 25mm wide angle lens makes a massive difference when taking landscape photos.
There are many images that I and others TZ7 owners have taken that currently exist on Flckr including a group dedicated to TZ7 pictures so they can give you a very good idea about the power this camera.

I need to remove my lens cover on my camera, help?
I've had my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4 for just shy of years and I have not been keeping in my case for about 8 months now. I've never had a problem with the lens cap on my other cameras, but I googled my problem and apparently lens cap error-ness is common with Panasonic. I do not want to send it in to have it repaired or buy a new camera (because I've had three cameras for the last two years) but I want to take out 4 flaps that cover the lens and then just keep it in a case when I'm not using it. Does anyone know how to remove the flaps without damaging lens? I'm super scared I might scratch the lens.
Try your nails. They should not be hard enough to scratch the lens.
Panasonic woos Prosumer videographers with GH2 a nice set of video format options, plus an articulated touchscreen attractive to the current crop of DSLR video experimenters, and potentially faster autofocus along with probably better noise reduction can pique interest in traditional still shooters.
